Diesel, Boat and Electrical Systems Plus commissioning or decommissioning.
This course combines our Diesel, Boat and Electrical Systems course and offers hands on commissioning to help you get your boat ready for the season ahead. It is broken out into a two day Diesel class followed by three days of learning hands on boat / electrical system’s and how to commission your boat in the spring and decommission in the fall. Prevention is better than cure, they say!
When you arrive you will find a diesel motor completely disassembled with an intact block, and all the other parts arranged on several tables. You and your classmates assemble the engine system by system, understanding the purpose of each part and the symptoms if that part was to fail. You will leave this course with the knowledge to diagnose what may have caused the diesel to fail, and to know if you can fix it or if it is serious enough to call in a mechanic. You will also learn to do the spring commissioning on a motor and/or how to winterize your diesel.
There are dozens of questions you may have about maintaining your boat…In the Boat Systems portion of this course we will cover:
- What pieces of a head need regular servicing?
- How does the steering work and how do you adjust the cables?
- What does a winch look like inside?
- How do you tune a rig?
This course goes over the basic systems of a boat including the galley systems, mechanical systems, rigging, steering, and the plumbing system. We look at different kinds of pumps the boat uses for different applications.
We have several boats available to look at for this course, so you can understand different approaches to solve different system challenges, as well as various system pieces disassembled to understand their workings.
